Located in Kampong Kiarong, the Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is the largest in Brunei and considered as one of the grandest monuments to Islam in the Far East. The Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque was Built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan's reign, this mosque is the largest and arguably the most magnificent in Brunei. The Mosque was Opened in July 1996 and tells the story of the royal dynasty of Brunei. A place of prayer as well as an architectural treasure, the Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is commonly called Kiarong Mosque by the local people. The golden domes of the mosque which can be seen from a fair distance away and overlook a landscape of the most exquisite gardens and fountains.
Tourists in Brunei may visit Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque but are asked to remove their shoes before entering and to exercise due consideration for people praying. Women should cover their heads and dress conservatively. The mosque cannot be visited by non-Muslims on Thursdays.
Visiting hours:
Sunday to Wednesday: 8am-12pm, 2pm-3pm & 5pm-6pm
It is open on Saturday provided that there is no official function the following day.
