CambodiaThe kingdom of Cambodia is located in Southeast Asia and shares borders with Thailand and Laos on the west and on the north, and Vietnam on the east and the southeast. The country is bounded on the southwest by the Gulf of Thailand. After years of isolation Cambodia has re-emerged from the darkness and once again it is at peace and set to take its place as one of Southeast Asia's most popular tourist destinations. Some of the many attractions in Cambodia include the capital city of Phnom Penh and its Silver Pagoda of the Royal Palace, Mekong River cruises, the National Museum of Arts and Wat Phnom, the temple from which the city takes its name. The city has lively restaurants, bars and fascinating market shopping.
The country has many other highlights including one of the world's great ancient wonders, the ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat. Angkor was the capital of the mighty Khmer empire which ruled a large portion of South East Asia around 1000 years ago. After the collapse of the Khmer civilisation Angkor was abandoned and the temples were covered by the jungle. They were rediscovered in the 1860s by the French. The country has many more temples, miles of unspoiled beaches, rainforests and spectacular natural scenery for visitors to explore and discover. Cambodia has a Tropical climate with a rainy monsoon season June-Oct and dry season Nov-May.
