The mosque is a huge complex covering ten hectares (25 acres) and was dedicated in 14 November 2006 by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The six pillars in the courtyard are actually hydraulically operated umbrellas which can open to provide shade for the 15,000 worshippers that can fit into the prayer area. Six also represents the six tenets of Iman.
