Mahakan Fort, Bangkok, Thailand There used to be fourteen of these forts dotted along the old city wall but only two remain (the other is Phra Sumen on Phra Athit Road). It was built in the late eighteenth century to protect the new city from attack. The Burmese did try in 1785 but their armies never reached Bangkok so the fortifications were never tested.
