Victoria Memorial, Kolkata, India. Designed by William Emerson and built between 1906 and 1921. The building was commissioned after the death of Britain's Queen Victoria in 1901 and the foundation stone was laid on 4th January 1906 by the Prince of Wales, later King George V. Built of the same white Makrana marble it's design was intended to echo the Taj Mahal. It features central dome, four octagonal chattris, high portals and domed corner towers. The memorial, which is also a museum, is set in 260,000 square metres (64 acres) of gardens
